James Blake, Travis Scott, and Ludwig Göransson join forces for “When I’m Home,” the lead single from The Odyssey soundtrack. Considering the anticipation surrounding the film, expectations were sky-high. Thankfully, this isn’t your typical soundtrack record.

“When I’m Home” is built around cinematic production that constantly shifts moods, blending haunting orchestration, ambient textures, and dramatic sound design into one immersive experience. James Blake owns the first half of the record, delivering heavenly vocals that feel delicate yet emotionally overwhelming. His performance is the emotional backbone of the track, pulling listeners into its mysterious atmosphere almost immediately.

When Travis Scott finally arrives, he changes the entire energy. His delivery is choppier, louder, and far more aggressive, creating a striking contrast against Blake’s softness. Lyrically, Travis remains as cryptic as ever, leaving much of the interpretation up to the listener, but his presence injects urgency into the song.

Would I throw “When I’m Home” into my daily playlist? Probably not. However, that’s clearly not what this record was designed for. It feels like a scene-setter, one that will likely hit much harder when paired with the visuals of The Odyssey.
