Destroy Lonely sounds like he recorded this one inside a PlayStation while three bad chicks argued outside.
Destroy Lonely is getting ready to drop his new album Drop Dead Gorgeous, and “MONSTER” is a pretty damn good way to get us ready for it.
The first thing that stood out to me about this track is the production. It has tons of bass, some almost handheld video game-like effects, and a really nice tempo that gives the whole thing this weird, slightly mind-f**ked feeling.
As for Destroy Lonely, he spends most of the track talking about three things: his luxurious lifestyle, having bad chicks around him, and making sure the people he considers family know he’s loyal. What I really like is how he finds these little pockets throughout the song where his melodies become extremely catchy and intoxicating. There are definitely moments where he sounds like he’s just rambling, but thankfully, there’s way more useful singing than useless rambling here.
I wouldn’t call myself the biggest Destroy Lonely fan, but I think “MONSTER” is a fantastic comeback. I’ll definitely be tuned in when it drops.
