Fridayy’s “Tension” is basically 41 minutes of yearning, late-night texts, questionable romantic decisions, and hoping somebody feels the same way you do.

5. Haiku
“Haiku” is all about fumbling something with someone you really wanted. In your eyes, y’all had something good going; however, she’s moved on and is entertaining other people, while you’re still convinced you’re the one she should be with. So now you’re on that phone calling her, running your bill up. Thank God cell phone companies don’t charge for minutes anymore.
Though the track is about longing, it still has this upbeat, feel-good vibe, from the production to the children singing during the chorus. Fridayy does sing like his life depends on it, though.
4. Text
“Text” is about hitting someone up late at night, hoping they respond because you’re trying to pull up. Y’all were just together, but it only left you wanting more. Now you’re hoping they’re feeling the same way and don’t leave you on read. We’ve all been there. Unfortunately.
Appropriately, the track features smooth but slightly disheveled production that feels perfect for soul-searching. As for Fridayy, he delivers a very unchained performance. I especially like how he captures that feeling of trying not to come across as desperate, then eventually saying, “f**k it, I’m going to come across as desperate.”
3. Can You Stay
“Can You Stay” had me locked in from the very beginning. The track is about meeting someone that ignites something within you, and now you don’t want them to leave.
The track’s vocals and slick production perfectly capture the feeling of being on the dance floor, where things are getting heated, and you’re just waiting for the okay to take them home with you for the night. It’s giving yearning, flirtation, and deep desire. Hell, I got chills listening to this.
2. Time Will Tell
“Time Will Tell” is about falling for someone you knew you shouldn’t, then realizing those feelings never really went away. You’ve tried to move on, but every time you see them, it all comes rushing back. The song feels emotionally charged and hella authentic, and you can hear that struggle in Fridayy’s voice throughout the track.
1. Death Do Us Part
“Death Do Us Part” is the only track on the album with a feature, and it’s Mariah the Scientist. It’s about a relationship with struggles, where someone has seen the worst parts of you and still chose to be by your side.
The track is pure love, vulnerability, understanding, and devotion. It’s heavy with emotion and honestly feels like the perfect way to end the album.

Fridayy’s Tension is a very well-named album about the different phases and stages of getting to know someone. The tracklist has 12 songs and runs about 41 minutes, and it really is a rollercoaster.
The album is R&B-heavy and filled with emotional ups and downs. It covers everything from meeting someone on the dance floor to practically begging not to lose someone you’ve let completely into your life. There are moments of intimacy and seduction, but also pain, hurt, and uncertainty. You get new connections, people you’ve lost touch with, and people you desperately want to rekindle things with.
Every track feels authentic, and they all connect while still telling their own story. Overall, I think this was a really chill, late-night album. I already have a couple of tracks on replay, and honestly, this feels like the kind of project that hits even harder at 1 AM when nobody is bothering you.
