Will The Weeknd go back to his roots?
The Weeknd may have officially found his spark again.
“I haven’t been this inspired since 2012. Stay tuned. Stay motherf**king tuned!”
That’s a pretty bold statement from an artist who recently seemed ready to walk away from music altogether. The Weeknd previously talked about retirement, but after apparently testing out that idea, it looks like he didn’t exactly enjoy the feeling. Now, he’s sounding rejuvenated, inspired, and ready to give fans something worth waiting for.
The Weeknd has reached another level of popularity over the years, selling out massive shows and consistently finding himself near the top of the charts. At the same time, his music has gradually shifted toward a more cinematic pop sound, moving further away from the dark, unapologetic R&B that helped him emerge as one of the most exciting artists of his generation.
Maybe stepping away gave him a chance to rediscover what made that earlier music so special. Around 2012, The Weeknd was delivering projects like Echoes of Silence and Kiss Land, so hearing him specifically point to that era has me very interested.
Whatever he has planned, I think a return to that darker sound is something plenty of fans would happily welcome. For now, though, we’ve been given one instruction: stay tuned (Kudos to NFR for the find).
