Honorable Mention. Skims Dress

“Skims Dress” is smooth s**t that feels tailor-made for an elegant pool party where nobody touches the water, Hennessy is flowing, and hors d’oeuvres are making their rounds. The production isn’t overly complicated, but it has an island-inspired feel, so people will f**k with it. Then you get one of the catchiest choruses on the entire project here, giving the song an immediate replay factor. If I were to guess, it will rack up tons of streams.

3. Better To Be Friends

Everyone can relate to a track like “Better To Be Friends.” On the track, SAINt JHN admits that he only wants to be in a relationship with someone who can genuinely be there for him during the hard times. You know, a down-ass chick.

What I love most is how the production matches that honesty. The bass-heavy, chaotic, yet somewhat hypnotic beat gives the song plenty of personality, while JHN comes through fiery, slightly wounded, and completely honest. It’s one of those tracks that will go extra hard during the two hours before you go to the club after a breakup that ended because of irreconcilable differences.

2. Dennis Rodman

When SAINt JHN acts like a rockstar, the stock goes up. We get that version of him on “Dennis Rodman.” The track features emotional production built around touching piano notes and kids singing like ghosts, but it also brings in edgy rock elements that make you want to have sex with a guitar again.

Over it, SAINt JHN lets loose, delivering gritty raps for most of the track while showing the kind of raw passion you’d expect from a dude ripping his shirt off onstage. Lyrically, he reflects on making it out of the trenches and growing as a person, reminding us that he’s still a real one after all these years.

1. Love Me For The Summer 

“Love Me For The Summer” is one helluva love song, and SAINt JHN absolutely commits to the role. He talks about living the fast life once fall arrives, but he’s more than willing to get reckless and active with his girl during the other months (I wish my past relationships worked like this).

Dramatic production does a lot of the emotional heavy lifting, practically forcing feelings out of you, but JHN takes it somewhere else with his vulnerable vocals. He sounds like a desperate dude standing in the rain, watching his girl walk away while begging her to get back in the car. This is another great example of how ridiculously well SAINt JHN can act through his music.

I’m always going to root for SAINt JHN. He’s one of my favorite artists. I think he’s incredibly talented, and goddamn it, he needs better representation. I shouldn’t have discovered this project by accident. When an artist makes something this good, people should know it exists.

There isn’t a bad track on this album. JHN gives us passion, versatility, hard s**t, thoughtful writing, irresistible melodies, and production that consistently hits. I also think his actual acting performances are slept-on. He doesn’t approach these songs like he’s simply trying to make something catchy. He almost performs them like an opera singer, using his voice and delivery to create characters, emotions, and moments. There’s a theatrical quality to what he does that makes the music more immersive.

And the writing? It’s on some real s**t. JHN goes beyond the obvious conversations about love and heartbreak and explores everything that comes with them. Can we meet each other halfway? Can you understand who I’m becoming? Can you accept all of me, even when I’m not exactly easy to deal with? Can you wipe my ass after I take a dump? Then there are songs about his come-up and personal growth that add another layer to the project. He’s actually saying something.

My biggest issue is that I don’t think enough people know SAINt JHN outside of his music. Where is he from? Who does he associate with? What makes him tick? He’s clearly opinionated and honest, but he also seems guarded. Better marketing could bridge that gap and make the project feel like an event.

Because the music is absolutely there. The project deserves more attention than it’s getting. I enjoyed it. I appreciate SAINt JHN. I just wish more people had a reason to appreciate him, too.
