John Legend Previews ’MUSE’ With Pharrell-Produced “Daylight”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I’d play this during a wedding’s cocktail hour just to keep the scoundrels far away from the open bar.

John Legend is preparing to make his triumphant return with an album called MUSE. Making the project even more exciting is the fact that Pharrell Williams will produce the entire thing. Legend gave listeners a preview of what the two have been cooking up by releasing a single titled “Daylight.”

“Daylight” is one of those tracks that deserves to have a bow wrapped around it. Pharrell supplies flowery, elegant instrumentation that feels like some s**t you would want around your arms. There is also a bounce underneath everything, giving the record enough rhythm to have you tapping your toes while Legend handles the rest.

Vocally, John Legend sounds how you want him to sound: pure, hypnotic, and passionate. He spends the track assuring his lover that he desires her most when the sun starts coming up—which, as everyone knows, is when certain things tend to work most efficiently.

If this is our taste of MUSE, John Legend and Pharrell may have a timeless album on their hands.
