The surprise YSL compilation produces the series’ lowest opening despite featuring several major artists.

Young Thug and Young Stoner Life’s Slime Language 3 has officially entered the Billboard 200, although its opening position is probably not what most fans expected.

The massive 41-track compilation debuted at No. 146 after earning approximately 11,000 equivalent album units during its first tracking week. Of course, those numbers require some context. Slime Language 3 arrived unexpectedly late Friday, costing the project valuable streaming hours during the opening day of Billboard’s tracking period. It also received little advance promotion, leaving many listeners to discover that the album existed after it had already landed.

Still, there is no way to completely sugarcoat the result. A No. 146 debut with only 11,000 units is an extremely quiet opening for a project carrying Young Thug’s name, especially one featuring Travis Scott, Future, Lil Baby, Yeat, Quavo, Veeze, Cash Cobain, and Trippie Redd.

For comparison, Slime Language 2 debuted at No. 1 in 2021 with 113,000 equivalent album units. The original Slime Language entered at No. 8 with 41,000 units in 2018. Of course, those previous ones had a lot more contributions from Lil Keed and Gunna, who were stars for the label.

However, this installment feels more like a sprawling showcase for YSL’s roster than a traditional Young Thug release. The timing, limited rollout, and compilation format undoubtedly affected its performance. Even with that context, though, 11,000 units remains a surprisingly low opening.
