The Weeknd is preparing to return to one of the most mysterious and polarizing chapters of his career.

During a recent interview with GQ, the Canadian superstar revealed that he is working on a remastered version of his 2013 debut studio album, Kiss Land. Although an official release date has not been announced, The Weeknd sounds completely committed to revisiting the project.

“I’ve been obsessing over that album recently,” he explained. “I’m in the process of remastering it because it’s the one project I never felt I executed exactly the way I envisioned.”

For longtime fans, that admission might be surprising. Kiss Land has developed an extremely passionate cult following over the years, with songs such as “Professional,” “The Town,” “Adaptation,” “Belong to the World,” and “Wanderlust” regularly appearing in conversations about The Weeknd’s most creative work.

However, the album did not initially receive the same widespread praise as his mixtape trilogy or the blockbuster projects that followed. That makes this remaster especially fascinating.

Exactly how dramatically the music will change remains unclear. A traditional remaster typically improves an album’s clarity and balance rather than completely rebuilding its songs.

Either way, Kiss Land is preparing to open its gates again, and this time, The Weeknd intends to make everything look and sound exactly right.
