Yeat’s tour-made EP is aiming for a solid opening after growing from five songs to seven.
Yeat didn’t give fans much time to prepare for COCOON. Now, his seven-track EP is reportedly on pace to earn around 16,000 equivalent album units in its opening week.
That figure is an early projection, so it could change before the final numbers arrive. Still, it gives us a first look at how listeners are responding to a project Yeat initially described as a five-song pack made on the road. He kept adding to it before release, eventually turning COCOON into a seven-track EP.
The biggest addition was Drake. The two reunite on “MISS MY DAWG,” giving the project a collaboration fans had already heard previewed during Drake’s Fear of Missing Out presentation. Elsewhere, songs such as “EARNËD IT” and “LUH BIRK” give Yeat room to play with the strange voices, shifting flows, and futuristic production that have become central to his sound.
I think the most interesting thing about COCOON is how casual its arrival felt. Yeat made music while touring, expanded the pack, and put it out. If the 16,000-unit estimate holds, that’s a solid opening for a short project that started as something he made on the road.
