September 25th will be the sleepless night Swifties have been dreaming of.

Taylor Swift has officially announced her next single, “Patient Zero,” coming out on Friday. In her Instagram announcement, she wrote: “I’ve been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single ‘Patient Zero’ will be out on September 25 (!!!!!!!!!!!!) and it’s available to pre-order now on my website for 24 hours. 0??0??0??0??”

The single appears to be related to her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, which came out in October of 2025. Her announcement contains twelve exclamation points, the font on her website is the same, and “THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL” is written at the bottom of the webpage where you can buy CDs of the single.

The aesthetic of “Patient Zero” is very different from the rest of The Life of a Showgirl. While the main album has bright colors, glitz, and glamor, this has a black-and-white aesthetic, with Taylor in a plain black top in front of a gray wall, and the website being primarily grayscale. There’s still a glitter pattern to the letters, though.

This follows the announcement that Taylor will receive the first-ever Artist Director Honors at the VMAs on September 27th.

I am so excited. I was still recovering from her teasing the re-recording of her debut album at the Emmys, and now she’s announced a new song? I literally gasped when I got the notification. The Life of a Showgirl isn’t my favorite, but that doesn’t change how excited I am. It has some great tracks. I wonder if the new aesthetic means that we’ll be getting more music, maybe even a B-side or a companion album. The more music, the better.
