murdermart Contemplates Addiction to Losing on New Track “LOSER”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Sometimes, we lose so much that it feels comforting. murdermart explores that feeling on “LOSER.”

murdermart is a Boston-based electric indie band with a very unique sound. Blending pop punk, rock, and electronic, “LOSER” never has a dull moment. I loved the guitar solos and the vocal production in particular. murdermart clearly knows a lot about music. Not just writing it, but also playing and composing. They’re a very talented group that reminds me a lot of The 1975 and Bleachers, with an emo boyband twist.

The subject matter of this track is particularly interesting. “LOSER” begins with the singer saying that he’s fighting a war with himself. The song continues by expanding upon this “war.” He keeps losing and wonders if he loves that feeling, and that’s why it happens. He says that he’s “too far gone to be winning.”

The person he’s singing to is a winner, who looks at him like a loser. He asks the winner to help him win for once. He’s grateful for what he does have, particularly his friends, but that doesn’t change that he can’t seem to get on top.

I find this to be a particularly interesting theme. Humans hate change, and sometimes, if the baseline is negative, we feel comforted by the negativity. I haven’t heard any songs about that before, and I really enjoyed listening to the lyrics and thinking about the theme myself.

I love a song that makes you think, so I definitely see myself coming back to “LOSER.”
