I didn’t know Ray Vaughn had these bags in his arsenal…
Ray Vaughn can rap his ass off. We all know that by now. The transition from respected lyricist to commercial star is still in progress, but if he continues dropping records like “Set It Off,” he will get there.
Produced by Hitmaka, “Set It Off” is built around a beat that transforms. The track begins with soulful production that gives Ray room to settle in before everything switches into full-blown ass-kicking music. That change brings out two versions of the Long Beach rapper.
During the opening portion, Ray uses a smooth, controlled style while reflecting on making it out of the woods, possibly returning to hustling, and remaining prepared for violence. He also finds time to salute the nasty women occupying his world. Once the production shifts, however, Ray lets the animal loose. His delivery becomes more aggressive, his flow gains urgency, and his technical ability moves forward.
Following his 2025 mixtape The Good The Bad The Dollar Menu and “Hit And Run” with AZ Chike, “Set It Off” keeps Ray’s momentum alive. Let’s see how he decides to close out this last quarter.

Quincy is the creator of Ratings Game Music. He loves writing about music, taking long walks on beaches, and spaghetti that fights him back.
