Netflix’s “Young Thug on Trial” Documentary Announced for 2027

This should be very interesting.

If you followed Young Thug’s trial through courtroom clips and constant updates, there’s a documentary to put on your watchlist.

Netflix is set to release Young Thug on Trial in 2027. The film runs 90 minutes, with Shianne Brown directing and Passion Docs producing. Kari Lia and Hamish Fergusson are credited as executive producers.

The documentary centers on Jeffery Williams, better known as Young Thug, and the people who rose alongside him from Atlanta’s streets. From there, it turns to the prosecution’s attempt to establish that the organization associated with his music label was a criminal street gang.

What’s interesting is the scope of the description. The filmmakers aren’t simply presenting this as a story about a famous rapper facing charges. They’re framing it as a larger examination of Atlanta, the community around Thug, and how rap became part of the courtroom conversation.

That could give the film something valuable to offer beyond the clips people have already seen. The documentary could also influence how we think about the legal system’s handling of similar cases.

Considering everything that unfolded during the trial, there’s no shortage of drama, bizarrely funny moments (I really hope YSL Woody is featured heavily in this doc), and shocking revelations for the documentary to explore.

Young Thug on Trial is scheduled for 2027, with its exact premiere date still pending.
