A$AP Rocky, reggie & Jeremih Set a Hazy Mood on “Shroom Clouds”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Rocky celebrates weed and women in this smooth banger.

After A$AP Rocky took eight years to drop an album, he’s preparing to possibly give us two in one year. DON’T BE DUMB arrived earlier, and now he’s gearing up for DON’T BE DUMB (Disc 2). What might be its first single, “Shroom Clouds,” has hit streaming services with reggie and Jeremih along for the ride.

The track features beautiful instrumentation. It’s hazy, has a dusty hip-hop vibe, and moves at a very nice tempo. There’s an easygoing feel to it that makes me want to sit back and let it play. It doesn’t sound rushed, and that gives everybody room to settle into the mood.

Jeremih and reggie provide altered but infectious vocals, while Rocky brings out a skippy, extra sly rap approach. I like how his delivery moves around the production without disturbing that relaxed atmosphere. The vocal contributions fit into it nicely, too.

Lyrically, Rocky talks about putting vaginas out of order and pays homage to the effects of recreational drugs like weed and mushrooms. So, to make a long story short, the track is about weed and women, two of the greatest W words out there.

I think “Shroom Clouds” is an absolute vibe; I’m just not sure why it exists. It sounds good, but I’m still waiting to understand what makes this one essential to the next chapter.
