Zara Larsson Releases a Sparkling New Video for “Blue Moon”

Zara Larsson knows how to make musical magic, and the “Blue Moon” video gives it a gorgeous visual match.

One of my favorites from Zara Larsson’s Midnight Sun, “Blue Moon” gets even better with its music video. Zara channels the magic of an old-school Barbie movie, looking like she belongs in one of those fantasy worlds.

Zara begins the video as a human, then becomes a fairy and a mermaid. Honestly, if anybody in pop was going to make those transformations work, it would be her. The fantasy aesthetic suits the song perfectly, and she looks every bit as beautiful underneath the stars as you’d expect.

“Blue Moon” deserves to do well as a single. The song is so catchy, Zara sounds gorgeous, and it gives her voice the perfect place to shine. To me, it brings together everything that makes Midnight Sun so enjoyable. The video doubles down on that with colorful visuals, a little silliness, and enough sparkle to keep me happy. I especially love the glitter effects. Honestly, Zara creating glitter out of thin air feels pretty believable at this point.

What I’ve learned is that Zara still knows how to pick a great single—and she makes a very pretty mermaid.
