Kid Rock and Eminem Address Brotherhood and Politics on “Heal My Faith”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Eminem does more explaining than Katie Zacharia on this track.

Kid Rock isn’t necessarily someone I would cover at my own leisure. However, his new album, Halfway 2 Jesus, features two of the greatest rappers of all time, Eminem and Lil Wayne, so f**k it, we’re going to talk about some of it. First up is “Heal My Faith.”

The track features a fiery Kid Rock performance, with him roaring over epic production. Everything sounds dramatic enough to make you feel like somebody is about to deliver a sermon from the roof of an arena. He certainly doesn’t leave his contribution sitting quietly in the background.

As for Eminem, he spends his verse talking about Kid Rock being his brother and someone who has always supported him. He also addresses how their political differences shouldn’t prevent them from working together. Given the conversation around this collaboration, you knew that subject was going to get some attention.

Interestingly, I really like Em’s verse. It’s one of his more subdued performances, which works for me. He sounds focused on getting his point across, and I appreciate how easy his delivery is to follow. Kid Rock brings the fire, but Em’s restraint is what actually keeps me listening.
