Kygo and Ava Max Live It Up on New “Before You Know It”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Kygo and Ava Max really are a great pair.

“Before You Know It” is such a blast. Kygo and Ava Max do splendidly on this EDM/country-dance track.

Country and EDM are hard genres to mix, but Kygo has been known to do it, and Ava’s voice works very well with this style of music. I think that she’s underrated. She works a lot and gets radio play, but not a lot of people outside of her fanbase really mention her. She can really sing. I love genre blending, and this is a great example of that.

The song is about getting drunk with her friends at a bar, and even after last call, definitely being back soon. It’s not like it’s the deepest song ever written, but it’s fun and silly. The lyric video is simplistic: just a woman (presumably Ava) in a cowboy hat, by sand dunes, looking at what I believe is an inflatable palm tree.

I love how big a year country seems to be having. Lots of pop artists are influenced by it, probably due to Ella Langley’s sudden rise in popularity with “Choosin’ Texas.” I’m not complaining. “Before You Know It” is undeniably an EDM track, but the blend with country is very present and equally delightful.
