VALDIS Dances Through Pain on New “you can do a lot with a broken heart”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

VALDIS reminds us that we can stay on our feet even after heartbreak.

On her new single “you can do a lot with a broken heart,” VALDIS dances through the pain of heartbreak. Scandinavian synth-pop’s signature beats shine through, helping her remind all of us that heartbreak doesn’t have to define us.

My favorite line in the song is “the pain can only pass if you feel it.” People often push difficult feelings down and hope that ignoring them will make them go away, but that isn’t the case. The message of “you can do a lot with a broken heart” is that heartbreak doesn’t have to define your life, but you can’t just shove it inside, either.

VALDIS is undeniably Scandipop, but I hear similarities to Dua Lipa, Ava Max, and Carly Rae Jepsen as well. There is also the natural comparison to Taylor Swift’s “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” from The Tortured Poets Department. The songs are thematically similar, and the titles are similar, but it’s not a copy at all. It shares the same theme of powering through heartbreak, though, just on the dance floor instead of the global stage.

“you can do a lot with a broken heart” is a delightfully catchy heartbreak anthem/club banger that will leave anyone in need of a pick-me-up very satisfied with their song choice.
