Taylor Felt Finds Freedom on the Dance Floor With “WAVES”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Taylor Felt delivers an uplifting dance-pop gem about letting go of emotional baggage and finding freedom on the dance floor.

Who said healing has to involve sitting in a dark room and staring at your phone? Taylor Felt would rather take those feelings to the dance floor. On “WAVES,” her collaboration with ALXi, she encourages listeners to let go of whatever is weighing them down. The track appears on ELECTRA, the dance-focused companion to her earlier project, ELECTRABLOOM.

“WAVES” pairs an uplifting message with production built around dynamic drums and synths. There’s a release-and-reset feeling to the whole concept: let the tide take away what no longer serves you, then give yourself permission to enjoy what comes next. Sometimes, you need that reminder delivered with a beat you can move to.

The infectious hook is central to the track’s appeal, giving its message something listeners can carry with them. Honestly, I rock with the idea of making room for difficult feelings while still choosing yourself. You don’t have to wait until everything is perfect to find a little freedom.

All in all, “WAVES” offers the kind of dance-pop escape that comes with a purpose. Bring your baggage if you need to—just don’t feel obligated to leave with all of it.
