Doechii Returns With Swamp Sessions Track “CATWOMAN”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

How TF can you hate on Doechii? I don’t get it.

Can I blow your f**king mind? Doechii still hasn’t dropped her debut album. I know what you’re thinking: what about Alligator Bites Never Heal? Technically, that’s a mixtape. The pressure is on; will she crack? Thankfully, her latest Swamp Sessions release, “CATWOMAN,” sounds like something someone who eats pressure for dinner would make.

“CATWOMAN” features several beat switches, starting with a calm that feels designed for someone deranged. Naturally, Doechii raps like she’s the intended customer. The second beat adds cinematic drama and knock, and she responds with even more aggression and animation.

Her delivery reminds me of prime Nicki Minaj and Doja Cat combined. The punchlines hit, the competitive energy stays high, and she makes sure her recent success gets mentioned without letting the performance become a victory speech. She still sounds hungry.

Eventually, the production turns even more chaotic, though she leaves that final section without a verse. All in all, “CATWOMAN” reminds you that Doechii is as hip-hop as anybody in the game. So, once again, why are y’all hating on her?
