Dove Cameron Takes Down Victim Mentality on New “do the math”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Dove Cameron has written a takedown for everyone whose exes are all “crazy.”

At some point, if all of your exes are crazy, it’s time for some introspection. Dove Cameron reminds us of this on “do the math.”

We have been waiting for this song since 2021. Dove took her sweet time releasing it, but I’m so glad it’s finally here, serving as a single before her debut album FINAL GIRL. It’s a scathing alternative pop song directed at someone who needs to realize that they’re the problem in all of their relationships: “It’s always been you / And your daddy issues.”

All of this person’s girlfriends have had the same criticisms of their behavior, yet they still won’t take accountability and say anything other than that their exes are all crazy. I think most of us know a person like this, which makes the song even better. So many of us have wanted to say this to someone, whether they’re an ex or just someone we know, so it’s nice to hear Dove sing it.

I get more excited for FINAL GIRL every day. Dove Cameron has been in the music industry for a while, and we’re finally getting her first LP. We are going to be fed this November.
