Kacey Musgraves’ weekend in Texas sounds like an eventful one.

Kacey Musgraves released two songs tonight: “Weekend In Texas” and “Mi Tesoro,” both from the follow-up to her 2026 album Middle of Nowhere. The follow-up is Middle of Nowhere, Vol.2: Tex Mex Tapes, and I can definitely hear the Tex-Mex influences on “Weekend In Texas.”

In the song, Kacey has been with her ex in Tennessee, but she’s said “adiós to his ego.” She’s going back to her home state of Texas, where she’ll be tearing up the dance floor, dancing to Bob Wills, and drinking tequila for breakfast. She loves Texas so much that she might just stay forever.

The song is a laid-back country track with Tejano, norteño, and cumbia influences, staying true to the “Tex Mex” part of her upcoming album title. The guitars add to the carefree vibe of the song. This would be a great song to listen to on a lazy afternoon on the porch with a drink of choice.

I can’t think of any Kacey Musgraves songs I don’t like, but this isn’t among my favorites, honestly. It’s a fun song, but not what I typically seek out from Kacey. Hopefully, it will grow on me. I am wildly excited about Tex Mex Tapes, though.
