This is 2 Chainz’s first solo studio album since 2022… Wow.
2 Chainz is closing the year with a full project alongside Statik Selektah. Playaz Only Live Once arrives December 4, with Statik handling the production throughout and 18 tracks listed on Apple Music.
That combination is definitely intriguing. Chainz’s delivery has always worked well when the beat gives his humor, imagery, and punchlines enough space. Statik’s sample-heavy approach could provide exactly that kind of setting.
Chainz was already productive in 2025, releasing the Red Clay soundtrack and joining Larry June and The Alchemist for Life Is Beautiful. I thought the latter was outstanding, so another producer-focused collaboration feels like a direction worth exploring.
His last solo studio album, Dope Don’t Sell Itself, arrived in 2022. Despite its recognizable guest list, I don’t find myself thinking about it often.
The early material gives this release a different feel. “A Week in Paris” leans into his luxurious lifestyle, while “Pops” turns toward his father and the lessons that stayed with him. Their earlier single “Reign” also brought Cash Cobain and Young Nudy into the mix.
I’m hoping the album balances those sides of Chainz well. The flashy bars are welcome, but hearing more perspective behind them could make this partnership especially worthwhile. December 4 is looking interesting.
