Yung Bleu Brings Michael Jackson-Inspired Flair to “Liquid Gold”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I didn’t know Yung Bleu had this in his bag…

Yung Bleu is productive as hell. As a matter of fact, get this: In the past two years, he’s dropped a whopping five albums. His latest release, “Liquid Gold,” follows a busy stretch that includes ‘World At War’ and “Mercedes.” Whether another project is coming remains unclear, but he’s giving us plenty to work with.

The production here is interesting. It leans into funky pop, with the kind of groove that might have you attempting your most Michael Jacksony moves. If you got knees like Kenny Smith, proceed with caution (Actually, I think he got his fixed recently).

Bleu seems happy to play Michael, too. He sings with passion, spice, and those strained little bursts that sound like he’s fighting for his life on the toilet. Does the performance work? Absolutely. He sounds committed to entertaining you, and the flair fits the production.

Honestly, I think some listeners might dismiss this before pressing play simply because it’s Yung Bleu. Give it a fair shot, though. “Liquid Gold” is an entertaining hip-pop switch-up that deserves more than a raised eyebrow.
