Quavo Returns to His Trap Roots With “One Hit Away”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Quavo dropped a whopping four songs last night. He ain’t playing about “SATCHAMO.”

People didn’t seem to love Quavo’s QROMELIFE, and I get it. The album involved plenty of experimenting, and I’m not sure that’s what I want from him. With SATCHAMO on the way, though, he’s giving listeners another direction to consider. “One Hit Away” is among his latest releases, and I like this s**t a lot.

The track runs on bass-heavy trap production that feels as riveting as the scenes on John Q where the monkey got to act. Quavo approaches it with his usual s**t-talking and robotic flow, which fits the backdrop perfectly.

On paper, none of that sounds groundbreaking. In practice, it’s exactly the kind of thing I enjoy hearing from him. He knows how to make this sound work, and “One Hit Away” reminds me why that formula connected in the first place. I’m definitely running it back.
