Drew Delivers a Sharp Pop-Punk Introduction With “Narcissist”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

A bass-driven introduction to “Death of Humanity” that pairs attitude with uncomfortable emotional honesty.

Drew Schueler checks just about every box I have for a pop star. His voice is outstanding, his writing is sharp, and his energy makes it clear he’s fully committed to this music thing. With his debut album, Death of Humanity, approaching, he’s leading with the excellent “Narcissist.”

The vibrant, bass-heavy beat on “Narcissist” has some bite, and its tempo makes getting lost in it feel effortless. Drew Schueler brings just as much personality, pairing bold, passionate vocals with an intoxicating melody. There’s flair in the performance, but you can still hear the frustration underneath it all.

He spends the track addressing someone who’s happy to call him the worst names imaginable but won’t acknowledge their own role in the relationship’s mess. Funny how everybody becomes an expert on your problems when discussing their own would require accountability.

I think Drew nails this. “Narcissist” has the energy, melody, and emotional conviction to keep you coming back. It’s an easy add to your playlist, especially if you’re dealing with a name-caller right now.
