Future Recruits Drake, Travis Scott, Loe Shimmy, and Sexyy Red for “Ya Hit”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Future assembles contrasting personalities for “Ya Hit,” pairing shifting trap production with slick, reckless performances.

Future is already preparing another album after The Real Me, a project I found disappointing (Then again, I was in Vegas loopy off some Smirnoff when I first listened to it, so my opinion might’ve been altered). His new single, “Ya Hit,” features Drake, Travis Scott, Loe Shimmy, and Sexyy Red. That’s a crowded-ass studio.

The production moves like prime Le’Veon Bell, making all kinds of shifts while keeping its diabolical trap atmosphere intact. As a whole, the s**t sounds like something you would hear in the hallway to hell.

Loe Shimmy brings his little-stickup-man energy, Future follows with tougher vocals and playa talk, and Drake slides in with a flow reminiscent of DDG. Sexyy Red’s ad-libs complement Drake’s section, including his shots at people in bad label situations. Travis finishes with altered, gnarly vocals about threesomes and women who stream more than Twitch.

The personalities and handoffs make the track work for me. Individually, I’m not sure these performances would hold up as full songs. Together, they give you enough variety to stay engaged. It’s cool, but I still hear a missing piece: Gunna.
