ORKID Delivers a Haunting Alt-Pop Gem With “Wait, Don’t Go!”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

A heartfelt pop single about holding onto familiar voices, precious details, and the people behind them.

ORKID makes music that feels larger than life without losing sight of the feelings behind it. Her vocals are captivating, and her lyrics tend to dig into emotions that aren’t always easy to explain. Following her EP In All Of My Tomorrows, she returns with “Wait, Don’t Go!”

The production feels haunting, gentle, and genuinely touching, creating an atmosphere that gives her voice room to hit you. Lyrically, ORKID explores grief, specifically the frightening realization that memories of someone you’ve lost can begin to disappear, too. Forgetting their laugh or the sound of their voice becomes another kind of loss. That’s some heavy s**t.

What I love is how her performance moves between heartfelt, fragile, and absolutely chilling. The melodies are beautiful, and the chorus is ridiculously infectious without taking away from the subject matter. She makes a deeply personal fear feel easy to understand.

“Wait, Don’t Go!” is about struggling to hold onto memories, but I don’t see myself forgetting this one anytime soon.

FINAL GIRL is a fantastic first album. I’ve been a fan of Dove’s for over a decade, and I am thrilled after this. I love the prevalence of the theme of physical pleasure, instant gratification, and external validation being seen as both a distraction from grief and valuable in their own right.
