TaReef KnockOut Celebrates ‘Eggs for Breakfast’ With “Turkey Bacon”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This might be my favorite TaReef KnockOut track this year.

TaReef KnockOut is on a roll. Tracks like “CONUNDRUM,” “Blessings,” and “Where the Loot?” have all hit for me because he sounds hungry, motivated, and extremely polished. He keeps that streak going with a remastered version of “Turkey Bacon,” celebrating the fifth anniversary of his EP ‘Eggs for Breakfast.’

The production we get on “Turkey Bacon” has a lovely tempo, an almost mechanical feel, and a glimmer of sunlight peeking through. It’s both upbeat and chill, giving TaReef plenty of room to get to work.

TaReef spits about avoiding pigs—both pork and the cops—while staying competitive and knocking out life’s challenges. He also calls out gold diggers, stays focused on the paper, and makes room for patience as he pursues his dreams.

I love the chorus, the confidence with which he plows through the production, and how naturally the meaningful words fit his personality. Nothing feels forced. “Turkey Bacon” deserves your full attention, even if, like me, you aren’t a fan of actual turkey bacon.

Worst Christmas Ever! is a solid example of Sufjan Stevens’s Christmas music. He’s able to take existing pieces and give them interesting, dynamic spins while still keeping the charm, nostalgia, and message of the original works. His own original songs are also very good, especially “Sister Winter.” I like the structure that is rarely deviated from: Christmas classic, Sufjan original, etc.
