ILoveMakonnen and Rae Sremmurd are black rock-stars with a new certified hit!
Lil Wayne and Kanye West were made fun of for incorporating punk rock into their music on their respective albums Rebirth and 808s and Heartbreak. Rap and rock mash-ups aren’t by any means a new concept, however, ILoveMakonnen and Rae Sremmurd make it sound so easy and so natural! It’s safe to say I’m obsessed with this song.
If Mike WiLL Made-It then can you really go wrong? No, you cannot. The juxtaposition between the upbeat instrumental and slightly heartbreaking lyrics is pretty standard for many rock songs. They’ve got the correct rap + rock formula for this song in the same way Gym Class Heroes had the correct formula with many of their hits.
ILoveMakonnen has put out an instant classic in my eyes and the self-proclaimed Black Beatles are well on their way to showing the world why they deserve that title!
