Robin Thicke – On Earth, and In Heaven (Album Review)

We waited seven years for Robin Thicke to release On Earth, and in Heaven. Guess what? The wait was worth it.

5. HOLA

Just to let you know, ‘hola’ means hello.

I like how soothing, multi-faceted, hypnotizing, romantic, and jazzy “Hola” sounds. The way Robin Thicke lets his emotions towards his woman dictate where his vocals go on the song is absolutely beautiful.

Man, I wonder how this song would hit during Valentine’s Day or Cinco De Mayo…

4. THAT’S WHAT LOVE CAN DO

“That’s What Love Can Do” is one of Robin Thicke’s most impressive songs to date (BTW, he has several impressive songs on his resume)

“That’s What Love Can Do” is a timeless-sounding tune that features heartwarming lyrics, gentle vocals, and peaceful vibes. I love every second of the song but probably won’t play it during a turn-up session.

3. TAKE ME HIGHER

I hope that Robin Thicke and Pharrell submitted “Take Me Higher” to Turnitin before they released it.

I love the soulfulness, the festive vibes, the sentimental lyrics, and the intoxicating melodies that “Take Me Higher” boasts. I also love how the song clearly borrows (We won’t say ‘steals’) sounds from R&B hits from back in the day. All in all, if you are a Robin Thicke fan, after you hear “Take Me Higher,” you have to believe that he is truly back!

If Robin and Pharrell get sued for this song, folks are just being petty…

2. OUT OF MY MIND

If you are a fan of “Lost Without You” (Of course, you are), you will like “Out Of My Mind.”

“Out Of My Mind” is glorified elevator music (I don’t mean that as an insult at all). The song features a therapeutic instrumental, a high-pitched/gleeful vocal performance, and lyrics that should put you and your lover on cloud 9.

Robin Thicke is in his bag on “Out Of My Mind.”

1. LUCKY STAR

“Lucky Star” is dedicated to both Alan Thicke and Andre Harrell.

“Lucky Star” is one of those positive tunes that might make you cry tears of joy. Not only is the song powered by an instrumental that is as curative as it gets, but it also boasts lyrics by Robin Thicke that will remind everyone that has lost someone close to them that guardian angels do exist.

OVERALL RATING

(B+)

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was On Earth, and in Heaven. The album features a collection of songs that were made as far back as 2019. The reason this is significant is that I can tell Robin didn’t want to release the album until it felt right for him. With that being said, every single song on the album is powered by well-structured/extremely intricate instrumentals, gorgeous melodies, wide-ranging vocal performances, and well-throughout lyrics. The album also flows majestically, as Robin Thicke does a great job of staying in his romantic/soulful pocket. Though Robin has been through his fair share of up-and-downs in his personal life these last couple of years, his music skills have remained intact.
