Temiloluwa Afolabi, otherwise known as Luwa XI, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer that is currently based in Houston, Texas. Afolabi has been writing and producing music since he was in high school, but only recently started releasing songs to the public. His first album, The Dream, which was released in May 2020, contains ten top-tier tracks. Since then, Afolabi has continued to drop music with varying success. His albums and singles are available on Spotify, YouTube, and SoundCloud. Luwa XI’s newest single is “Bread,” which features artist H.A.N.N.A.H. Additionally, the song has an accompanying music video.
“Bread” is a life story at its finest. Afolabi raps about being forced to stay inside during the beginning of the pandemic and how his music gained notoriety at that time. Arguably, one of his greatest strengths is his ability to connect with his audience using similar memories. He recollects thoughts of Yu-Gi-Oh, a popular card game from the early 2000s that was loved by thousands. He also addresses the determination it takes to make your dreams a reality; clearly, he isn’t afraid of putting in long hours, and he’s unwilling to skip out on the hard work. At only twenty years old, Afolabi has an understanding of what it means to be young in America during COVID. At the same time, he incorporates his roots and culture to create a lovely Western-Eastern mix. So, stream Luwa XI’s “Bread” today to learn about life as a young adult at this point in history.
