Stand Up

Jazmine Sullivan

I told myself that I wasn’t going to cry today…

I’m going to get this out of the way immediately: The Emmitt Till story pisses me the hell off. The only silver lining from it is that it jumpstarted the Civil Rights movement. Soon, a biopic based on Emmitt’s mother will hit movie theatres. Today, the lead single off the soundtrack to the movie, “Stand Up” with Jazmine Sullivan, hit streaming services.

Not many musicians can bring the level of passion that Jazmine Sullivan can bring to a song. In “Stand Up,” a track that is about understanding the power that we all have within, Jazmine absolutely shines. If you are someone with a heart, there’s no way that you won’t be moved by her amazing vocals and pure emotions. While I don’t think I can stomach watching Till, I may have to give the soundtrack to the movie several spins for motivational purposes.

Give “Stand Up” a shot below.
