RY!UKA dabbles in several different sounds and emotions in “Hell’s Paradise I.”

3. My Love, Come Save Me

Based on the first two songs, I would’ve never expected to hear a love song on this project (Or an anti-love song)…

“My Love, Come Save Me” is powered by one of the most intense hip-hop/R&B beats I’ve ever heard. Over it, we get a very daring vocal performance out of RY!UKA. Matter of fact, throughout the song, he does his best to give Mariah Carey a run for her money with his passionate vocals and intoxicating melodies. As for lyrically, he bounces between sounding vindictive and hurt, providing us with the musical version of she loves me, she loves me not.

2. Constantly Overdosing

“Constantly Overdosing” is as bittersweet as it gets.

In “Constantly Overdosing,” RY!UKA speaks on the impact that drugs have on his mood. While I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t recommend anyone to be in the place that he is in, he does acknowledge that drugs have allowed him to see better days.

What I love about “Constantly Overdosing” is that the song boasts production that knocks hard as hell, but at the same time, elements that are almost cartoonish in nature. As for RY!UKA, though he sounds pretty gritty overall, I also feel like he sounds high on life (Pun intended).

1. …And Nobody Came

Ignore the title, this song is fire!

It was genius to open up this EP with “…And Nobody Came.” For those of you that are new to RY!UKA, this intro will tell you that, when he raps, he likes to make listeners feel his every word. Throughout the song, not only does he spit with this grungy tone, but he also hits us with lyrics that are genuine, chilling, and fierce.

The uptempo production that we get in “…And Nobody Came” gives me out-of-this-worldly Three Six Mafia vibes. To be completely honest with you, it’s my favorite thing about the song. Don’t sleep on how RY!UKA rides the beat like a pro, never being intimidated by its twists and turns.

RGM RATING

(B)

This album deserves the ultimate chef’s kiss. RY!UKA has an unbelievable ear for music. The way he meshes good and evil, old school and new school, and hip-hop and rock is amazing. I also love how he keeps it a buck about love, drug usage, and more lyrically. Though Hell’s Paradise I is only 5:37, I think it is as creative as any other project I’ve heard this year.
