Ice Spice Wins Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop “Rookie Of The Year”

Guess who just snagged the title of 2023 R&B/hip-hop ‘Rookie of the Year,’ according to Billboard? Yup, it’s none other than Ice Spice! The 23-year-old Bronx rapper has had a very impressive few months, and she’s not holding back her excitement. “I’ve poured my heart and soul into my craft, and having something more concrete than just plaques to show for it is truly special,” she shared about her recent win.

Ice Spice’s journey to stardom started with her smash hit “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in 2022. In the track, Ice showcased her unique drill style. From there, songs like “Bikini Bottom” and “In Ha Mood” kept her wave going strong.

Can you believe it? In just about two years of being in the spotlight, this rising star has carved out her own unique sound that caught the ears of big shots like Drake and Nicki Minaj right off the bat. Ice Spice didn’t mess around – she joined forces with Minaj not once, but twice, dropping hits like “Princess Diana (Remix)” and “Barbie World.” And that’s not all – she also sprinkled her creative magic on collabs like Pink Pantheress’ “Boys A Liar Pt. 2” and Taylor Swift’s “Karma.” Talk about making a name for herself – Ice Spice shows she’s got that special something everyone’s looking for.

“I would always be on Google as a kid, looking up ‘how to be rich’ and ‘careers that pay the most.’ I was like, ‘OK, should I be a doctor? Or should I be a lawyer?’ I just wanted to make all the money,” she told Billboard. “But I did always love music. I guess it just fell into place.”

The good news is this: Ice Spice has stuck with music, as she released a new EP called Like… just a few weeks ago. It features yet another smash hit: “Deli.” The EP also went toe to toe with Nas and Hit-Boy’s Magic 2 album when it came to charting. Soon, Ice will be releasing her full-length debut album.
