If you say you saw a collaboration between Miguel and Lil Yachty coming, I will call Maury on your candy ass. While these two artists create vastly different genres of music, hail from different generations, and originate from distinct geographical backgrounds, they do share a common trait that deserves applause: a genuine willingness to break free from conventional norms and explore creative boundaries. So, I guess their collaboration does make a little bit of sense. In “Number 9,” Yachty and Miguel step way, way, way outside of the box.
To maximize the experience of “Number 9,” you must eat more mushrooms than Super Mario. The song is propelled by euphoric production and entrancing vocals from Miguel. As for Lil Yachty, taking a page from his performances on Lets Start Here., he gifts us with a peculiar verse that has him sounding like a monk teaching a class at a community college. Surprisingly, I like the chemistry here.
