DDG knows a thing or two about keeping a dime in his pocket.
Do you know how people call DDG a Z-list rapper? That s**t be cracking me up, but if you think about it, it’s a very disrespectful thing to say. Personally, I think he makes solid music; I just don’t love that he tends to veer toward the gimmicky side from time to time. After releasing the pretty solid Maybe It’s Me... a few months ago, DDG is back with a new single called “She Don’t Play.”
Okay, I’ll be real with you—I didn’t anticipate a Lil’ Mama homage track in 2023, but here we are, and I’m ready to embrace it. “She Don’t Play” is fueled by a more dramatic version of the beat to Lil Mama’s hit single “Lip Gloss” (Kudos to Hitmaka and OG Parker for producing the beat). Over it, DDG adopts this moany style of rap-singing, addressing his prowess in captivating a woman who isn’t his. While the song may lack originality, I do believe that the melody played with by the Pontiac, Michigan native is pretty infectious. Regardless, some might dislike the song, possibly because there’s a prevailing sentiment to hate on DDG for some odd reason…
I predict that DDG will elevate to R-list rapper by the middle of next year.
