Rating: 3 out of 5.

After almost a year, Stormz’s “Violin” is still the perfect song to chill to.

Stormz is a Nigerian-Ghanaian artist based in Canada, known for blending genres such as hip-hop, drill, rap, and Afrobeats. He started his music career in late 2020, quickly gaining recognition for incorporating his cultural roots into his sound. Stormz’s releases, which include six singles and an EP, consistently showcase elements like Afrobeats rhythms, his distinct vocal style, and occasional use of dialect, all of which reflect his Nigerian and Ghanaian heritage.

Stormz’s track “Violin,” from his EP Ifunaya, was released in December 2023. The EP, which runs for 11 minutes and features four tracks, tells a story of infatuation and attraction. Each song, including “Violin,” blends rhythmic Afrobeats with a passionate narrative, staying true to his roots as a proud Nigerian-Ghanaian artist. As with much of his music, “Violin” captures his essence by combining traditional African elements with modern musical influences, showcasing his versatility and cultural pride.

“Violin” begins with an almost lullaby-like tone, blending a soft rhythm that sets a gentle, soothing mood before picking up slightly in the verse and chorus. Stormz’s deep voice enhances the track’s sensual yet calming vibe, making it perfect for laid-back listening. The Afro-music influence is clear, both in the vocals and the beat, giving the song a unique texture. While it’s not as upbeat as some Afrobeats tracks, it still has a vibe that makes you want to sway along, even if you’re not dancing.
