Lil Skies Returns With “Pivot”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Do you know how it’s surprising that a bunch of young ballers look up to Paul George? It might also surprise you that many young rappers who submit their music to me look up to Lil Skies. I get it, though. Skies is a helluva rapper that knows how to bridge the gap between jit and traditional rap music.

Lil Skies dropped singles here and there, such as “Out My Way,” “BASE,” and “Wake Up,” in 2023, but nothing more than that. The last time we got an album from Skies was 2021’s Unbothered. Hopefully, in 2024, we’ll get an album from the Pennsylvania native. In the meantime, he returned to the music scene with a new single called “Pivot.”

Lil Skies does zero smiling in “Pivot.” Throughout the song, he adopts a grungy, cold style of rapping to express his affinity for smoke, his ability to lap his competition, and his playa ways. While I wouldn’t label Skies’ performance as bad (he sounds pretty solid over the booming beat), it does lean a bit toward the generic side. Nevertheless, it’s refreshing to hear from him again.

Lil Skies has to make sure this rap s**t fully pans out for him with all those tattoos on his face.
