Ice Meez Wants More Than A “Friendzone”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Corey Byrdsong, known as Ice Meez, is a seasoned hip-hop artist from Northern California. Known for his raw and authentic lyrics, Meez doesn’t shy away from addressing adversity and personal growth in his music, as evident in tracks like “Fake Friends.” In his latest single, he emphasizes the significance of communicating feelings to avoid being relegated to the friend zone.

In “Friendzone,” Ice Meez and featured guest Mr. Ampossible express their desire to move beyond mere friendship with the women they’re interested in. Meez, in particular, highlights various qualities of his potential partner, such as her cooking skills, sex appeal, and ability to vibe with him, emphasizing his romantic interest.

“Friendzone” seamlessly blends my two favorite genres: Afropop and hip-hop. The production, coupled with Mr. Ampossible’s infectious chorus, exudes Afropop vibes, while Ice Meez injects the track with a dose of hip-hop flair through his bold and potent raps. Together, they bring complementary yet distinct energies to the song.

We need more hip-hop and Afropop fusions.
