I know the fake hip-hop police are going to hate hearing me say this, but there’s no denying that Gunna had a stellar year last year. Tracks like “Fukumean” garnered significant attention, and critics had high praise for his album, Gift & a Curse. Continuing his momentum, Gunna has now dropped an emotional banger titled “Bittersweet.”

Gunna rises to the occasion with his back against the wall, showcasing his resilience and talent in “Bittersweet.” I’m particularly impressed by how he pours his heart out, delivering profound lyrics about missing his YSL crew, expressing deep respect for his big homie Young Thug, and reflecting on the bitter side of fame. It feels like the first time since his release from jail that he’s truly delved into his personal circumstances with such honesty and depth.

What’s intriguing is the emotional depth of this track as a cohesive piece. Gunna leans into these numb vocals, which I think will resonate deeply with listeners. These vocals carry even more weight when paired with the emotional production, characterized by somber guitar licks and minimal bass, adding a poignant layer to the overall sound.

Gunna is a real one.
