Machine Gun Kelly Keeps It Real In “don’t let me go”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Is Machine Gun Kelly one of my favorite artists right now? B*tch, he might be. While I have never been the biggest fan of his hip-hop s**t, once he started dabbling in pop punk, emo, and alternative rock, I started f**king with him. There’s something about this version of MGK that feels authentic and organic. Today, the Cleveland native returned to the music scene with an emotional new single called “Don’t Let Me Go.”

In Machine Gun Kelly’s first verse in “don’t let me go,” he delves into his battles with mental health, revisits past traumas, and addresses strained family dynamics, seeking reconciliation and closure. In his second verse, he grapples with an identity crisis, reliance on medication, and a deep-seated fear of abandonment. His lyrics convey a sense of vulnerability and introspection, serving as a plea for understanding and a window into his psyche and motivations.

Machine Gun Kelly ventures into a stylistic blend of hip-hop and emo in this song. Against a backdrop featuring poignant piano notes, percussive elements, and a solid bassline, he delivers emotionally charged raps infused with a subtle melody. When all is said and done, MGK’s openness and vulnerability stand out as the defining features of the track.

I think we will be getting peak MGK this year.
