Genra Drops Introspective Bars In “Cise Says”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

John Gilchrist, also known as Genra, has harbored a deep passion for music since childhood. Influenced by artists like Stevie Wonder and BeBe & CeCe Winans, he developed a profound appreciation for various musical genres. Now established as a hip-hop artist, Genra showcases his talents in his latest single, “Cise Says,” offering listeners a glimpse into his artistic essence.

In “Cise Says,” Genra reflects on the pivotal moments that sparked his love for hip-hop, acknowledging the transformative impact of fatherhood on his perspective. He also credits specific individuals for uplifting his spirits when needed and addresses the pervasive sense of inauthenticity in today’s hip-hop landscape.

Genra had me as soon as the beat dropped. “Cise Says” rides on a smooth boom-bap beat reminiscent of “False Prophets,” a standout track by J. Cole. Genra effortlessly glides over the beat, delivering a blend of humble wisdom and unfiltered honesty. In essence, he not only understood the assignment but also aced it with flying colors.
