The Best of The Best: March

We look at some of the best and worst things that happened in March.

MOST UNDERRATED SONG

iann dior – House On Fire (From “BLIND”)

iann dior may not receive the recognition he deserves, largely due to operating in a genre often overlooked by hip-hop fans. However, for those familiar with his music, it’s clear how exceptional it is. “House On Fire” from iann’s BLIND album stands out as particularly remarkable. His dramatic vocal delivery and borderline poetic lyrics make it truly amazing. It’s unfortunate that the song hasn’t garnered more attention from listeners.

Is this iann dior’s best track ever? B*tch, it might be.

MOST UNDERRATED ALBUM

Joyner Lucas – Not Now I’m Busy

Joyner Lucas dropped an album on the same day Kendrick Lamar dropped a nuke on Drake and J. Cole, and because of that, I think people overlooked Joyner Lucas’s Not Now I’m Busy album. Let me tell you this: it’s really damn good! The album is packed with explosive tracks and beats that will shake your speakers. It’s just hard not to like this album.

BEST VERSE

Kendrick Lamar – LIKE THAT

I mean, seriously, is there even a competition? At this point, I genuinely believe this stands as the verse of the year. In it, Kendrick Lamar takes direct aim at Drake and subtly jabs at J. Cole through his aggressive flow. While the disses might grab the casual listener’s attention, it’s Kendrick’s sharp punchlines (That E-40 reference was dope) and energetic delivery, particularly over Metro Boomin’s hard-hitting production, that elevate it to greatness.

BEST HOOK

Sexyy Red – Get It Sexxy

Don’t kick my ass, but I think “Get It Sexxy” has the best hook I’ve heard this month. It’s catchy as f**k, serves as a great theme song for the unapologetic Sexxy Red, and takes elements from some of our favorite old-school hip-hop hooks. Just be real with yourself; you like this s**t, don’t you?

BEST FEATURE

Kendrick Lamar on “LIKE THAT”

Do I have to fully explain why this is the best feature of March? I’ll just say this: Anytime you get a verse from Kung-Fu Kenny, you must thank the good LORD. Kung-Fu Kenny shows his face every seven years like those damn cicadas.

BEST BEAT

Metro Boomin – LIKE THAT

That “LIKE THAT” beat is hard as f**k! That s**t will gas you up and give you enough confidence to slap your manager. Kudos must be given to Metro Boomin for making this beat boom like s**t.

TOP SONG

Metro Boomin, Future & Kendrick Lamar – LIKE THAT

I say this with absolute confidence: I firmly believe that “LIKE THAT” will win “Rap Performance of the Year” at the Grammy’s. The song is simply outstanding.

TOP ALBUM

SiR – HEAVY

You probably expected “LIKE THAT” to win this award as well, didn’t you? Unfortunately, it’s not an album… yet. However, the album that I believe deserves the most praise from March is SiR’s HEAVY. The vocal performances showcased throughout are exceptional, the lyrics are incredibly genuine, and the overall song styles are some of the most unique I’ve heard in the R&B genre. In fact, it’s almost difficult to classify this album solely as an R&B album.
