More Album Ratings: G Perico, Lola Brooke & Mozzy

Two California hard-hitters dropped solid projects.

G Perico – G Slim’s Revenge

(C)

G Perico is undoubtedly one of the best rappers who hasn’t quite reached household name status. He consistently delivers strong verses and comes across as trill. However, it’s worth noting that he has a slightly squeaky voice and a strong LA accent, which may not resonate with everyone. Recently, Perico released a ten-track project titled G Slim’s Revenge.

This album is packed with bangers; there’s no in-between. Every beat is designed to rattle your trunk, while Perico’s verses are animated, explosive, and exude immense confidence. He also spends a lot of time boasting on the project, highlighting his wealth, street credibility, and knack for attracting attractive women.

Favorite Songs: “Troll Patrol,” “She Sexy” & “Luxury.”

Lola Brooke – Dennis Daughter (Deluxe Version)

(N/A)

To fully appreciate Lola Brooke, I think you have to appreciate the female rappers from the 90s. To me, she sounds like Foxy Brown reincarnated, and I’m pretty sure a bunch of young music fans don’t know who Foxy is. Last year, Lola dropped an album called Dennis Daughter. Over the weekend, she released a deluxe version of the project.

There are only four new songs added to this deluxe version: “Neighborhood Hero,” “GO GET YA MOTHA,” “Becky (with 41),” and “Bend It Ova (with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Big Freedia).” Every track features explosive raps. Also, I feel like all the songs fit the overall body of work well.

Favorite tracks: “Neighborhood Hero” and “Bend It Ova.”

Mozzy – CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS

(C+)

I am a huge Mozzy fan for several reasons. Specifically, I like how real he keeps it in his songs and believe, from a technical standpoint, that he can go toe to toe with just about anyone. Over the weekend, Mozzy released a brand-new project called CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS. It has some good guest appearances and some very deep raps.

Favorite Tracks: “IF I DIE TONIGHT,” “JADED” and “LOST IT ALL.”
