Vince Staples Returns With “Shame On The Devil”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

How can you not love Vince Staples?

Do you know what I forgot? How much I loved Vince Staples’s Ramona Park Broke My Heart album. To me, the project flows well, sounds organic, and boasts some great storytelling. Additionally, I thought Vince shined as a singer. The significance of that last point is that in his latest single, “Shame On The Devil,” he shows off his vocal skills once again.

In “Shame On The Devil,” Vince Staples reveals a vulnerable side of himself. The track delves into his longing for love, his difficulty in forgiving friends who have betrayed him, and his focus on financial success. He concludes the song by seeking forgiveness from the Lord.

I love how this track flows. While it has a bit of a somber tone that is complemented perfectly by the hypnotic back-and-forth between Vince Staples and Baby Rose, you still get two fantastic rap verses from Vince that boast a dynamic flow and some sneaky-good punchlines. All in all, this track definitely gave me Ramona Park Broke My Heart vibes (Thank GOD).

LA hip-hop is having a great year.
