Reason delivers sharp lyricism and heartfelt reflection on his compact yet impactful ‘Don’t Play With My Heart’ release.
Reason is one of my favorite non-household name rappers, right up there with LaRussell. What makes him stand out is his balance. He can rap with elite technical ability, trading punches with just about anyone, but he also leans into an introspective side that feels honest and deeply relatable. That balance was on full display with I Love You Again, a project that reminded listeners how layered he can be as an artist.
Now he returns with a concise three-track release titled Don’t Play With My Heart. While the title track is one we have heard before, the project also includes the unapologetic and punchy “The Fall” featuring Dreamville’s Cozz, as well as the soulful and reflective “On Your Own” with Deante Hitchcock. Both tracks get 4.5s from me. Each collaboration feels intentional, adding texture without diminishing Reason’s presence.
Overall, this is a short but memorable body of work that reinforces just how powerful his rap records can be. Even in a compact format, Reason delivers substance, emotion, and sharp lyricism that sticks with you long after the final track fades.
