Sani Knight Bears the Pain In “Hate Me”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“Hate Me” asks the question: is love really worth the suffering?

Sani Knight is a Los Angeles-based artist who blends R&B, pop, and hip-hop into his extraordinary concoction. By fusing these genres, Sani has broken away from the typical modern “pop” mold.

In 2020, Sani released his debut single, “3 Digits,” and later collaborated with Bosquet on tracks like “Know Ya/Heart Belong,” “Ride For You,” and “KJ.” His latest single is “Hate Me.”

“Hate Me” delves into the darkest side of love, capturing the agony of being too deeply entwined to walk away. In the song, Sani describes a relationship that transcends mere toxicity. However, his desperate craving for his partner’s adoration distorts his perception of love to the point where he needs to feel pain to feel wanted. Despite glaring red flags, the couple’s twisted dynamic oscillates between love and hate, deepening their infatuation.

Though “Hate Me” portrays a toxic relationship, its production is anything but eerie. The melody draws from pop’s simplistic, upbeat side, making the single so infectious you almost overlook the chaos.
