3. We Time
Did Coi Leray just say she wants you to throw her on the sofa (Must be nice being a skinny girl)?
You will find yourself gravitating to “We Time” very easily. The song features seductive production by Mike WiLL Made-It and equally seductive vocals by Coi Leray. As for Coi’s lyrics, they are nastier than Kyle Anderson’s shooting form. In her verses, she mentions wanting to be handled sexually like Delta workers handle golf bags. You have to applaud her honesty.
2. Lemon Cars
Coi Leray fires more shots than Donte DiVincenzo in “Lemon Shots.”
In “Lemon Cars,” Coi Leray delves into the world of heavy drinking, exploring its effects on her as a woman. This includes discovering her true self, embracing life’s pleasures, and perhaps even hitting the stripper pole when she shouldn’t. Unlike Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools,” it’s unclear whether this track is meant to celebrate or criticize excessive shot-taking.
I’m really digging the stylistic vibe of “Lemon Cars.” The track rides on an uptempo, easygoing alternative pop beat by Mike WILL Made-It that I absolutely love. Coi Leray brings in a repetitive sound on the hook, but for the most part, she seems to go through the motions, occasionally coming across as a bit out of it. I mean, shots are supposed to f**k you up, right?
Coi Leray looks like the type of girl that passes out after two shots.
1. Wanna Come Thru
Ooh la la.
In “Wanna Come Thru,” Coi Leray urges someone she’s involved with to set aside pride and petty issues so they can intimately connect. While the lyrics about her getting on the same page as her partner will definitely catch your attention, when she starts talking dirty, you won’t even remember what the song is called.
Coi Leray brings out her silky singer side in “Wanna Come Thru,” blessing us with smooth vocals that pair perfectly with her sensual lyrics and the heart-pumping, traditional R&B beat by Mike WiLL Made-It.
SONG-BY-SONG RATINGS
RGM RATING
(C+)
These are the kinds of short projects that got folks signed back in the day. It sounds just like a demo tape. Coi Leray flirts with numerous subgenres throughout the project without fully committing to one. She also hops and skips through genres, speaking on her playa ways, come-up, free spirit, and libido. Overall, you get a very restless and versatile performance from Coi. At this point, I might be ready for her to fully commit to one sound, though.
So, what is Coi Leray’s best sound on this project? Well, I really liked it when she tapped into her R&B side in “Wanna Come Thru.” At the same time, I love the experimenting she does in songs like “Lemon Cars.” Y’all can definitely keep “Coke Bottle Body,” though.
Lemon Cars is more of a cheap mixed drink than a fancy cocktail. The good news is that both will get you equally drunk.
