4. Fight
“Fight” closes out this project so well.
“Fight” delivers the punchiest vocals, edgiest guitar play, and most enjoyable tempo on the album. The icing on the cake is the lyrics, which revolve around resilience and having tough enough skin to not care about what other people think of you. These are the types of anthems I believe everyone needs to listen to weekly, if not daily.
3. You Killed It
What goes up must come down.
“You Killed It” thrives on my favorite instrumental from this project. It’s vibrant, intoxicating, electrifying, and utterly invigorating. Baby Said’s vocals are unrestrained and free-flowing over it, blending seamlessly with lyrical themes about transient coolness. Overall, “You Killed It” is a wake-up call that will resonate with every cool kid out there.
2. Mouth Shut
Snitches get stitches.
“Mouth Shut” resonates with listeners thanks to its relatable lyrics penned by Baby Said, who addresses the desire to silence those who seek to expose one’s bold and daring actions.
Beyond the impactful lyrics, the track’s overall sound stands out. With its electrifying rock vibes and bold guitar play, it exudes edginess. The vocal performance adds to the thrill, seamlessly transitioning between moments of calm and bursts of intensity. Overall, it’s an exhilarating and enjoyable experience for any listener.
1. Panic Attack
You’re not supposed to enjoy a panic attack this much.
In “Panic Attack,” Baby Said vividly describes the experience of being in a toxic situation, with their heart racing, breathlessness, and feeling on the verge of fainting. They express their inability to see herself returning to normalcy until the situation resolves itself.
The track’s composition is particularly striking, commencing with a tense, slow-burning rock sound that gradually escalates into a frenetic soundscape. This sonic progression masterfully captures the intensity of a real panic attack. The vocal performance deserves recognition for its unfiltered, raw energy, which adds depth and authenticity to the song.
SONG-BY-SONG RATINGS
CONCLUSION
It’s quite remarkable that Baby Said is comprised of members who are only 17 and 19 years old. Their music exudes a level of comfort in their own skin typically associated with older individuals, along with a deep knowledge of rock’s storied history and a mature approach to handling situations. That said, Who Gives A Rock is an exhilarating coming-of-age project characterized by energetic instrumentation, intoxicating melodies, and rebellious lyrics. The EP maintains a consistently high energy throughout and is eminently replayable. Kudos to these talented young women for their impressive achievements.
